My Honest Take on the Home & Away Slow Cooker — Why I Use It and Love It

Okay, I have to talk about the Pampered Chef Home & Away Slow Cooker because this is one of those tools that just makes LIFE easier.

It’s made for those days when you want a home-cooked meal…but you also have approximately 847 other things to do. 😂

And as a former Drive-Thru Queen, I know that feeling VERY well.

Dinner That Doesn’t Need You Babysitting It

One of the biggest reasons I love a slow cooker is simple: I don’t have to stand over it.

I can get everything going, walk away, and get on with my day. Whether I’m working on my Pampered Chef business, running errands, walking Loki, or just enjoying some time that does NOT involve figuring out what’s for dinner, my slow cooker is doing its thing.

Then comes my favorite part:

Dinner is waiting for ME.

Now that’s the kind of relationship I can get behind. 😂

Who Is the Home & Away Slow Cooker For?

If you’re busy, tired, running kids around, working all day, or simply don’t want to spend an hour cooking dinner every night, THIS is your kind of kitchen helper.

Especially if you’ve ever looked at the clock at 5:30 and thought:

“Oh crud. These people want to eat AGAIN?!”

Yep. I see you. 😂

This is exactly why I talk so much about planning ahead—not because I think we all need to become perfect little meal-prepping machines.

Nope.

It’s because doing one small thing earlier in the day can make life SO much easier later.

Why I Love the Home & Away Slow Cooker

For me, it’s all about taking away some of the mealtime stress.

Before I learned to plan ahead, it was way too easy to wait until I was hungry and tired to decide what we were eating.

And you know what happens then.

Hello, drive-thru. 👋😂

But putting dinner in the slow cooker earlier in the day completely changes that conversation.

Instead of “What am I going to make?”

It’s “Oh yeah…dinner is already cooking!”

THAT is a beautiful sentence.

And the Home & Away Slow Cooker is especially handy because it’s designed for real life—including when you want to take your food with you. Whether you’re headed to a potluck, family get-together, tailgate, or friend’s house, you don’t have to leave the slow cooker behind just because you’re leaving home.

Hence the name: Home & Away!

See what they did there? 😉

A Few Slow Cooker Tricks I’ve Learned Along the Way

A few things make slow-cooker days even easier for me:

Prep the night before. If mornings are crazy, do whatever chopping or measuring you can ahead of time.

Use it for more than dinner. Soups, dips, shredded meats, party foods—don’t make your slow cooker a one-trick pony!

And my favorite tip?

Make enough for leftovers.

If I’m already cooking, I might as well make Future Robin happy too. 😂 Leftover slow-cooked meat can become sandwiches, tacos, bowls, paninis, or an easy lunch the next day.

That’s not leftovers.

That’s meal prep without having to call it meal prep.

And Because I Can’t Talk About a Slow Cooker Without Sharing a Recipe…

I’m including a Slow Cooker Birria recipe for you to enjoy! 🌮

This is exactly the kind of recipe that shows why I love slow cooking so much—you get tender, flavorful birria without spending all day standing over the stove.

Let that slow cooker do the work while you go live your life. Then come back, grab those tortillas, and get ready for something GOOD. 😂

Enjoy the recipe—and if you make it, I definitely want to hear what you think!

My Final Take

The Home & Away Slow Cooker isn’t about magically turning you into someone who has dinner perfectly planned every single night.

Because let’s be real…sometimes the drive-thru still wins.

It’s about making cooking at home feel a little more doable.

For busy people who want to eat at home more often without spending their entire evening in the kitchen, a tool that lets you set it, forget it, and come back to dinner can make a pretty big difference.

And THAT is exactly why I love it.

Because around here, we’re not trying to be perfect.

We’re just trying to make mealtime a little easier—and maybe ditch that drive-thru a few more times this week. 💚

And if you’re wondering whether it would actually work for the way YOU cook, just reach out. Tell me what your typical week looks like, and I’ll be happy to help you figure it out—no pressure!
