Sunday Reset Routine: 5 Ways to Make Your Week Easier

Have you ever started Monday feeling like you’re already three days behind?

Been there. 😂

That’s exactly why I love the idea of a Sunday reset routine.

Now, before you picture me spending six hours meal prepping with 14 perfectly labeled containers lined up in my refrigerator, let’s remember who you’re talking to.

Former Drive-Thru Queen here. 👋

My idea of a Sunday reset is doing a few simple things that make life easier for Future Robin.

Because when Wednesday rolls around and it’s 5:17 PM, I’d really rather not stand in front of the refrigerator hoping dinner magically reveals itself.

Here are five simple things you can do on Sunday to make the entire week feel a little more manageable.

Why a Sunday Reset Routine Makes a Difference

A Sunday reset isn’t about having your entire life perfectly organized before Monday morning.

It’s about taking a few minutes to think ahead.

When you already know which nights will be busy, what you’re making for dinner, and what you can prep ahead of time, that’s fewer decisions you have to make when you’re tired and hungry.

And anything that makes the 5 PM “WHAT ARE WE EATING?!” panic a little less dramatic gets my vote. 😂

1. Take a Quick Look at Your Week

Before deciding what’s for dinner, look at what’s actually happening this week.

Which nights will you be home?

Which nights are packed?

Is there an appointment, practice, meeting, or other commitment that’s going to make dinner tricky?

Knowing that ahead of time lets you plan your meals around your real life instead of the imaginary week where everything goes exactly according to plan.

Spoiler alert: I have yet to experience that week. 😂

2. Decide What’s for Dinner

One of the biggest favors you can do for yourself is answer the dreaded question:

What’s for dinner?

You don’t necessarily have to cook anything on Sunday. Simply deciding what you’re going to make can take away so much of that weeknight stress.

Pick a few easy weeknight dinners, check what you already have, and make your grocery list.

You Don’t Need Seven Perfectly Planned Meals

Here’s where I think meal planning sometimes goes off the rails.

We think we need seven dinners planned, ingredients perfectly organized, and every meal worthy of its own Pinterest board.

Nope.

Try planning three or four meals.

Leave room for leftovers.

Have a super-easy backup meal.

And yes, if one night ends up being sandwiches or cereal, everybody will survive. 😂

The goal of weekly meal planning isn’t perfection. It’s making your life easier.

3. Prep a Few Things Ahead

A little Sunday meal prep can save a surprising amount of time during the week.

And again, I’m not talking about spending your entire Sunday in the kitchen.

Try prepping just one or two things:

  • Wash and chop vegetables.
  • Portion snacks.
  • Cook a protein you can use in more than one meal.
  • Make a batch of rice or another grain.
  • Prep ingredients for Monday night’s dinner.
  • Wash your fruit so it’s ready to grab.

Even 15 or 20 minutes of prep can give you a head start.

Think of it as doing Future You a favor.

She’s going to appreciate it.

4. Have a Plan for Your Busiest Night

Look back at that calendar.

See THAT night?

The one where you’re already wondering how you’re going to get everything done?

That’s the night that needs a plan.

Maybe it’s a slow-cooker meal you can start in the morning.

Maybe it’s leftovers.

Maybe it’s something you can make in the air fryer in 15 minutes.

Or maybe you intentionally plan a super-simple dinner that requires almost no prep.

This is one of my favorite strategies for meal prep for busy families because we’re not pretending every night is the same.

Sometimes the best way to ditch the drive-thru is simply knowing which night is most likely to send you there. 😂

5. Make Something That Gives You a Head Start

If you do feel like cooking on Sunday, choose something that can help you beyond one meal.

A soup is perfect for this.

You can enjoy it for Sunday dinner, pack it for lunch, or have leftovers ready for one of those nights when cooking just isn’t happening.

Try This Sweet Potato & Apple Soup

For this week’s recipe, I’m including Pampered Chef’s Sweet Potato & Apple Soup.

Does that not sound like fall in a bowl? 🍎🍠

It’s the kind of cozy recipe that fits perfectly into a Sunday reset—make something delicious, enjoy it now, and give yourself the possibility of leftovers for later.

Pair it with a sandwich, salad, or some warm bread and you’ve got an easy fall meal without making dinner complicated.

Your Sunday Reset Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect

If there’s one thing I want you to take away from this, it’s this:

You don’t need to completely organize your life every Sunday.

A Sunday reset routine might be 20 minutes one week and an hour the next.

Maybe you plan four dinners.

Maybe you chop some veggies.

Maybe the only thing you accomplish is looking at your calendar and figuring out what Monday’s dinner will be.

That still counts.

Because every little thing you do ahead of time is one less decision you have to make when you’re tired, hungry, and everybody suddenly wants to know what’s for dinner.

We’re not going for perfect.

We’re going for a little more prepared and a little less overwhelmed.

And if that helps us ditch the drive-thru one extra night this week?

I’m calling that a win. 💚
